Business 101

Let’s face it, we come to Notre Dame for very few reasons.  It’s certainly not for the weather and definitely not for the broken social scene.  We come to Notre Dame for the things that will last well beyond our short time as members of the student body: the relationships with our friends, a commitment to excellence in every facet of our character, and, most importantly, Notre Dame Football!

We do eventually have to leave, and that means we have to hunker down and find a job.  It is important to remember the advantages that Notre Dame does carry throughout the job search process.  Yes, it can be a daunting task filled with uncertainty, but if you follow this guide and couple this knowledge with the experiences you gain from your time at Notre Dame and your work experience with the SIBC, the stress can be minimized.  It may sound naïve, but if you invest in yourself, you will ultimately succeed.

The trouble is that how do you know where to expend your time and efforts?  The first thing you must do is undergo a process of self-discovery.  What are you looking for from your career?  What do you enjoy doing?  Answering simple questions like these will give you the ability to go against the grain in the job market.  Yes, it might seem like everyone wants to do Investment Banking, but if you know you don’t want to work 100 hours a week and you don’t want to live in New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, it isn’t for you.  This may sound obvious, but its easier said than done.
